1952 Marx, Tom Corbett Polaris Space Ship in Original Box

1952 Marx, Tom Corbett Polaris Space Ship in Original Box

Impressive high grade example of the ever-popular Tom Corbett Polaris Space Ship manufactured by the Marx Company. Steel litho construction with clockwork motor and attached cast iron key. Comes complete with original box.

Extensively designed torpedo shaped "space-age" multicolored rocket features overall fish-like camouflage coloring with light underbelly and dark upper half. Features four horizontal rounded fins (which were pressed as part of the body, not separately tabbed), four embossed hatch covers, large 2-piece pressed disk wheels, original upright tail fin, flint sparkler, and original red acetate gel exhaust. As with all of the Marx rockets of this style, it moves along generating a loud boing-boing sound while emitting sparks through the exhaust. I replaced the flint and it sparkles beautifully. The flint holder is also original.

Original box (two panels) illustrated with Corbett and bubble helmeted crew on lunar landscape with Earthrise off in the distance. Third panel has a side portrait view of the ship, but drawn in a much simpler form. The remaining panels features the name of the toy in a logo with the rocket blasting off from the letter "E". Interior end flaps include operating instructions and flint replacement.
